For the first time in years the NZ Snowboarder Banked Slalom was held under sunny skies which worked perfectly for the long and technical course in Shooter. Over 60 strong snowboarders took on Treble Cone’s challenging freeride terrain. Wanaka’s Rebecca Sinclair won first place in the female race. Abby Lockhart of Wanaka, NZ., placed second and Japanese visiting snowboarder Risa Nakashima came third.
In the Mens division, Treble Cone instructor Antoinne Blaizeau easily took first. Just over 18 seconds behind, Will Harris of Wanaka,NZ., took second place and Will Jackways of Wanaka., finished third. The prize pool included cash, a Capita snowboard and day’s heli boarding with Harris Mountain Heli-Ski as well as great prizes from Nixon, Harris Mountains Heliski, Von Zipper, Union, Huffer, Capita, Powerade and Mint Bar.
Over Sunday evening and Monday Treble Cone received 20cm+ of wind blown snow in the Saddle and 10-15 cm across the Home Basin. Tuesday morning there were many happy faces lapping the Quad despite the pea soup cloud hanging around the top half of the mountain. Saddle Back has been groomed for the first time this year and was topped with 10 cms which made it one of the outstanding runs to be found.
This coming weekend is the series of Treble Cone Sofa Ski Camps. The program involves intensive analysis of your own ski technique to then move forward and take your skiing to the next level. It is open to all levels and participants of the 2012 camps so far have given nothing but highly positive feedback to our team and the results they have achieved. You can register at the link above.
