The Stratton Mountain School community is deeply saddened to lose a junior member of their team. Megan Virginia Ives, 16, of Farmington and most recently Londonderry, VT died in her sleep of undetermined natural causes on Thursday, September 20, 2012, outside of Santiago, Chile while participating in an alpine skiing training camp.
A student of the Farmington public school system through 8th grade, Meg attended Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, until transferring to Stratton Mountain School in Stratton, VT this fall. Her passion for skiing and her joyous spirit will be sorely missed by everyone at Stratton Mountain School. Her smile, laugh and optimism were an inspiration to all.
Megan leaves behind her two best friends and sisters, Keri and Katie; her parents, Tom and Mary; and sixteen aunts and uncles, twenty cousins and Rami Ackerman of Dallas, TX, who Meg, Katie and Keri grafted into their family as the brother they never had. She was predeceased by her grandparents, William and Doris Ives and Ed and Joan Knorring.
Services will be held for Megan on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Valley CommunityBaptist Church, Avon, Conn., and her family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Carmon Funeral Home and Family Center, also in Avon. Her obituary can be viewed here:
StrattonMountain School is a ski and snowboard academy located at the base of Stratton Mountain. The school is celebrating its 40th anniversary (1972-2012). SMS serves students in grades 8 – 12 with winter programs for 7th graders. The SMS community of students, faculty, coaches and staff share the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.
