The U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain fired up its snowmaking operations earlier this week in lieu of a very exciting opportunity for skiers with a Copper Mountain Season Pass, Copper Four Pack, Rocky Mountain Super Pass, or Super Pass Plus to take some turns with members of the U.S. Ski Team this fall! USSA officials have announced an online drawing hosted through the organization’s Facebook account that will allow one lucky winner and a guest to visit this world class training facility and meet some of the sport’s finest athletes.
The center is utilized by U.S. Ski sensations such as Ted Ligety, Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso. Snow sport enthusiasts waiting for their chance to step into the ski boots of an Olympic champion have found their moment! Not only will they get to ski with some of the world’s best athletes, they will get to tour and test out the only full-length downhill training facility currently in operation at this point in the season. The two-year-old facility matches what one would expect at an Audi FIS Alpine World Cup race hill in both safety and snow conditions. It boasts 87 HKD automatic snowmakers, two miles of World Cup Supply A-net with steel structures, five miles of B-net and fencing set on 4,500 Reliable Racing netting poles.
Patrick Riml, U.S. Ski Team Alpine Director explains, “U.S. athletes are incredibly fortunate to have this level of support from Copper Mountain and its skiers. Not only do our Olympians have a world class facility in the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center, but our regional club programs are also able to utilize World Cup level training very early in the winter season.”
The winner will enjoy VIP access to the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper, which includes lift access for two and a tour of venue from one of the team members. After getting acquainted with these world-class facilities, they will get to freeski with some U.S. Ski Team athletes, followed by a lunch with the team.
“Copper Mountain stepped it up with the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center”, said Ted Ligety. “It will be cool for the U.S. Ski Team to hang out and interact with Copper Mountain skiers while showing them first-hand what the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center really means to us.”
The official date for the winner to reap their reward is still up to Old Man Winter and the very busy 87 snowmakers on site — but the registration deadline of October 28th is very definite. Make sure you head over to the USSA Facebook Page to enter ASAP!
“Copper Mountain Resort is proud to enter into our second season, in partnership with the U.S. Ski Team, in delivering the best speed training venue in the world for our U.S. athletes, said Gary Rodgers, President of Copper Mountain Resort. “This year, with the cooperation of the team, we are excited to allow early venue access to some of our loyal guests so that they can experience firsthand the excellent snow surface, vertical rise and training conditions that our elite athletes will experience.”
Soelden, Austria will host the 2012/2013 Audi FIS Alpine World Cup season opener October 27 – 28. Until then, check back on the USSA’s Facebook and their Twitter accounts to stay abreast of any team updates along with contest information.
