Wild Mountain Gets an Early Start on the 2012/2013 Ski Season

Skiers and snowboarders in Taylors Falls, Minnesota got a surprise opening day this past weekend when Wild Mountain announced it would be opening its slopes for some early season turns! For the last 35+ years Wild Mountain has been among the first resorts to open in the Midwest, but being able to begin operations on October 7th absolutely smashes their previous 1992 record of October 18th.

In all, the mountain was able to open with one rope tow, one beginner run, Dandy and the Front Stage terrain park. The early start to the season was made possible by some recent cold weather, and Wild Mountain’s vigilant snowmaking team. After they produced enough snow to coat the area with around 24 inches, they strung up the rope tow and put out some rails for the young thrashers to get in a few October jibs.

Anyone who didn’t have skiing and snowboarding on their minds yet, surely do now! Fortunately, its still not too late to snag a season passes for Wild Mountain at an early bird 15% discount. The final day to lock yourself in at this rate is October 9th — giving you two days to make sure you’re ready for what promises to be a great winter.

Josh Tranby and Seek Joy Productions put together a nice edit from the opening day. Check it!
