An avalanche triggered Monday morning at Alpine Meadows Resort in Lake Tahoe, California, has left one ski patroller injured after an explosive charge set off the avalanche around 10:45 a.m. Part of a snow saftey mission, t
he patroller and other team members were positioned in an area believed to be out of harms way, but the triggered avalanche ended up breaking much higher and wider than expected.
Covered by snow immediately, the Alpine Meadows ski patroller was reportedly recovered within minutes, given CPR and transported via helicopter to the Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada.
With over 28 years of experience with the team, the incident was unfortunate, but luckily no fatalities were reported.
The avalanche follows another Tahoe incident at Squaw Valley in which an avalanche injured two skiers Monday morning. Everyone on scene was accounted for in both incidents.
