The Swatch Freeride World Tour by the North Face is back again for another season of exciting big mountain competition. 2013 marks the first year that the FWT becomes a globally unified series, combining last season’s Swatch Freeride World Tour, Subaru Freeskiing World Tour and The North Face Masters of Snowboarding. The action kicks off on January 7th, 2013, with the first stop at British Columbia's Revelstoke Resort.
Viewers around the world will be able to tune in live for the event's webcast on www.freerideworldtour.com.
The Revelstoke stop will pit competitors against one another on remote backcountry terrain in an area known as the “Mac Daddy” face on Mackenzie peak. The North American mountain has seen a ton of snow so far this season, and is poised to deliver ideal conditions for the event.
“The snow conditions are setting up perfectly at Revelstoke Mountain Resort,” detailed FWT Americas Competition Director Bryan Barlow. “With over 200 inches of total snowfall so far, the best case scenarios for the biggest, baddest North American venues are coming into play.”
Returning FWT Champion skier Reine Barkered spoke recently about his enthusiasm for the opening tour stop and the new unified format, saying, “I’m really looking forward to this season. With lots of new riders and great events, I’m sure it will be bigger than ever. The kick-off in Revelstoke is going to
be great. A mountain like that is the perfect place for a freeride competition. I’m just glad to be a part of it and no matter what, I’m going to enjoy the show.
