Sierra Nevada Waves, Surf in Snowy Lake Tahoe Over New Years

California's Sierra Nevada mountains are getting pounded with fresh snow to ring in the New Year, and what better way to celebrate then to get some turns in. If you thought you'd be snowboarding this holiday, doesn't mean you have to say goodbye to shredding water, because there are even waves at Lake Tahoe. California and Nevada's premiere ski resorts surround the pristine lake in the middle of both states. Over New Years Eve, the South Lake Tahoe casinos light up in anticipation of the ball drop – New York flair in one of the most beautiful West Coast destinations in the world. In the  summer, Lake Tahoe welcomes campers and wakeboarders, in addition to surfers. This winter, you may spot the occasional break if you dare to enter the chilly water of Lake Tahoe.

In addition to prime snowboarding and the occasional surf, the SnowGlobe Music Festival is counting down with an eclectic lineup of musicians on Lake Tahoe Community College's football field. Opening days feature influential DJs such as Beats Antique and Ana Sia who performed Saturday, Deadmau5 headlining “unhooked” on December 30th, and the grand finale with Canadian electrofunk duo, Chromeo, performing as the ball drops. The music will be echoing off the lake as fireworks fly over the night sky.
