Shaun White's Sweet 6-Peat Victory at SuperPipe at X Games

Posted By: The Ski Channel on January 28, 2013 1:51 pm

Another year, another gold. Sean White must be a superhero after winning over 2 handfuls of medals in the Winter X Games-18 to be exact. The mere fact of winning one X Games gold medal is a great achievement alone. To obliterate the Winter X Games record, Shaun White has just added another gold medal to his collection in the Men’s SuperPipe Finals at X Games in Aspen. Did I mention this is his 6th consecutive gold? Every air and maneuver he stomps makes a gravitational pull of the crowds jaws to drop. The ridiculous amount of style, air, and speed he handles is near perfection. In his best run with a score of 98, White threw down a massive 20-foot frontside double cork 1080, 24-foot backside method and a backside double mctwist 1260. Is this guy real!?!?

However, we definitely can’t ignore the epic runs and tricks stomped by Scotty Lago, Louie Vito, Greg Bretz, Christian Haller, Ayumu Hirano and Markus Malin. Each rider added to a legit line-up of competition and progression.

At only 14-years-young, rookie Ayumu Hirano, truly showed an epic performance and made his parents proud. With insane style and power, weighing barely over 100 lbs, this kid was competing against the top SuperPipe athletes and dominated the scene. His best score was 92.33 including multiple 900s, a cab 1080, and a frontside double cork 1080, amongst others. The crowd was in absolute awe. Hirano is the epitome of the next generation of snowboarding. Even the snow master Shaun White acknowledges that this kid is no joke and will be around for a while.

Scotty Lago’s first run was super steezy and strong with a cab double cork 1080. With a chance to top Shaun White’s score, Lago was pumped to make it happen but unfortunately caught an edge while dropping in. Regardless of the mishap, Lago’s overall performance was awesome enough for the judges to give him a 4th place finish. Markus Malin had a clean run of 91.33 with a backside double mctwist 1260 and ally-oop backside rodeo. His mad styl

e and stunts placed him on the podium for 3rd.

Another epic event at the X Games 2013 in Aspen, Colorado. Prepare to see even more progressive moments by these awesome athletes next year!
