The 2013 SIA Snow Show is back! From January 31-February 3, over 19,000 representatives of the snow sport world will feature over 1,000 snow sport brands and 106 new exhibitors in Denver, Colorado. Whether they are retailers, suppliers, athletes or media, these snow-savvy people will share the best of snow products and services for the 2013-2014 season. Not only is this show a great opportunity to network, it offers the best entertainment including an ice hockey shootout, fashion shows, job fairs, seminars/clinics, snowboard/ski demos, concerts, award ceremonies and a ridiculous amount of parties. SIA is pretty much the fantasy land of snow sports fans.
President of SnowSports Industries America (SIA), David Ingemie stated, “There’s no doubt the social and networking aspect of the Snow Show is at the top of the list – this is where the whole industry gathers together once a year. Some of these relationships go back 10, 20 even 30 years”.
SIA will kick off this Wednesday, January 30th with the Never Summer SOS Ice Hockey Shootout involving 30 intense hockey players-some even from the NHL. These hardcore athletes will compete to benefit SOS Outreach, which focuses on building character for youth in outdoor activities.
One feature that offers great networking, trading and purchasing opportunities is the Sourcing Snow event that will be open from January 30-February 1. The Sourcing Snow trade show exhibits essential, raw textile materials between designers, textile experts and production professionals to solidify their buying process before heading into the Snow Show.
Snow Show attendees will be welcomed on the evening of January 30, as SIA hosts its annual 2013 Snow Fashion & Trends Show. The fashion show will feature the upcoming snow clothing trends of 2013-2014 season with models and a live DJ in the Colorado Convention Center’s Mile High Ball Room.
Some of the epic award ceremonies that will go on is the the 14th Annual TransWorld Riders’ Poll Awards and the Skiing Business Industry Awards. TransWorld’s award ceremony takes place on Friday, February 1 and will honor the best snow riders of the year. The Skiing Business Industry will happen on Thursday, January 31 to recognize some of the best leaders of the ski industry in the nation.
An awesome seminar will be presented by the
Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) called Thought Leaders Keynote & Awards Presentation, on Saturday, February 2. Burton President and guest speaker of the seminar, Donna Carpenter, will give her personal perspective as a woman shaping the snow industry and the progressive norms that Burton has established for the workplace.
Those who are interested in joining the action sports industry are in luck. Schmooza Palooza is a job fair/network opportunity featuring 12 action sport companies presented by Malakye.com and SIA. This free fair brings together the top professionals and employers of the snow industry for in-person interviews and networking. Schmooza Palooza will go down on Friday, February 1 in the Colorado Convention Center.
Another popular aspect in SIA is the music concert Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks, which is continuing its second year. This year, major artists including Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will be featured in the show this Friday, February 1, which is already sold out.
For the third consecutive year, Malakye, 686 and SIA will present the RECLAIM Design Project that consists of three talented designers who show their skills of fashion design with “reclaimed” 686 clothing materials and trim leftovers. The designers have 3 days to create a snow clothing masterpiece in which the winner claims the prize of an internship with 686.
After the massive frenzy at the SIA Snow Show, the last 2 days will consist of the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest February 4-5, which puts newly purchased snow products to the test. Attendees have the chance to snowboard and ski at Winter Park Resort after a busy week at SIA Snow Show. Attendees also have the option to try a one day Nordic Demo on February 4 at Devil’s Thumb Ranch.
For those who like to get a little taste of competition, snow industry desk jockeys have the chance to compete in Malakye’s Office Booyz & Girlz Competition with no pressure. Fun titles are given such as “Most Confused” and “Desktop Destroyer”. Another adventurous activity is If anyone is an endurance run, called the Uphill/Downhill Challenge that raises money for the US Ski Mountaineering Team.
To top off the SIA Snow Show, attendees can hit up the mountain for the Shindig at the Summit on February 3. This epic party includes food, drinks and live music by the Willbilly’s featuring SIA Board Member, Billy Treacy, Director of Sales NA for Easton Bell Sports (Giro Sport Design).
Basically, the SIA Snow Show is the Disneyland of snow sports where dreams turn into a reality. Anything that a snow fan could imagine is in this global gathering which is the epicenter for snow sport innovation, progression and inspiration.
