Prepare for an epic battle between Team America and Team Europe in the Swatch Skiers Cup in Switzerland as they endure the epicenter of free skiing with the most intense peaks and glaciers of the Alps. The battle will take place in Zermatt, Switzerland February 10th-15th with the Big Mountain Challenge and the Backcountry Slopestyle Battle. Each skier will rep his skills and country in hopes of claiming victory over the 1-1 tie between Europe and America in the Swatch Skiers Cup. From previous years, riders have equally made their mark in the snowy peak of Valle Nevado, Chile and are now ready to move the challenge to the Northern hemisphere for an awesome adventure in Zermatt.
Created by Swatch pro team riders Kaj Zackrisson and Sverre Liliequist, the Swatch Skiers Cup is a friendly and fun competition between Swatch skiers on some not-so-friendly mountain peaks. Event organizers decide which 2 days out of the 6-day waiting period will best fit the battle between these two teams with a 2-day confirmation before the event. Judges consist of jump-shaper Julien Regnier, Ben Murphy and Mike Rogge. Head Guide Samuel Anthamatten, is responsible for venue selection, safety management and hooking up the riders with as much riding time in Zermatt as possible. It is a true tea
m effort, no matter what country these riders are from.
Eight riders per team have been announced for this year’s competition. New to this year’s competition for Team America is Greg Lindsey and Sam Favret for Team Europe.
Riders representing Team America include Cody Townsend, KC Deane, Rory Bushfield, Charley Ager, Josh Daiek,Logan Imlach, Tim Dutton and rookie Greg Lindsey. So much talent and character is combined in this team. Charley Ager is one of the top backcountry slopestyle skiers. Along with Josh Daiek, 2012 Freeskiing World Tour champion.
For Team Europe, riders competing this year include Kaj Zackrisson,Sverre Liliequist,Markus Eder,Richard Permin,Nicolas Vuignier,Paddy Graham, Fabio Studer and rookie Sam Favret. Kaj Zackrisson does not only stand out with his gnarly dreads, but his amazing riding style and knowledge of the sport. Sam Favret, recent winner of the Red Bull Linecatcher event and Chamonix local is another super dee duper addition to the Swatch Skiers Cup.
With riders like these guys on the Swatch team, who knows what kind of snow shenanigans may go down?!?!
