The winter of 2013 is paying off in the British Columbia backcountry. With abundant snowfall starting in early November skiing in BC has been incredibly good. For anyone who has dreamed of heli skiing, RK Heli Ski based at Panoroma Resort in Invermere, British Columbia should be first on your list. With the proximity of Panorama Resort you can ski with the family for a few days and break away for a day on a heli ski advnture. Panoroma has it going on!

Afterall RK Heli has been in business for over 43 years! Yeah 43 years. With that type of longevity you know that RK Heli knows how to show it's guests a banger time!

The Freeride Chronicles crew visited RK Heli the third week of January during a storm cycle which dumped a foot of snow each day of our visit. Talk about recharging the terrain. Our guide Rod Gibbons has been treating RK Guests to deep, powdery goodeness for over 27 years. Their tenure is huge with a variation of Glacier, trees and steeps. Luckily on our trip the sun came out for a few hours and we got a chance to make some iconic heli ski ski runs on the glacier.

Day One brought us into all kinds of terrain from steep and deep to nicely gladed tree runs. You add a foot of fresh to all that and your in for a great day. The day was capped off with cold beers sitting around the roaring fire at Choppers Landing which is the base of operation for RK Heli Ski. Not only are the beers good at Choppers landing but the food is out of this world. Being a North Idahoan I had to try the Elk Burger with carmelized onion, talk about delicious, my mouth is watering writing about it!

Day 2 we were blessed with another foot of snow and we were treated to Rod's Run, a run of epic proportion which was named after our legendary guide Rod. This run was filled with knee to hip deep blower, steeps and plenty of little pillow poppers to keep the Freestyle alive in both Former World Mogul Champion John Witt and myself. Simply put, this is a playground for adults.

After a couple of days like this I can see why RK Has been in business for 43 years. We can't wait to get back!
