Get pumped snow lovers as the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia kicks off exactly one year from today! The Opening Ceremony begins on February 7, 2014 with the medal events starting a day later, on February 8, 2014.
The USA is coming off an amazing performance in Vancouver 2010 as 17 skiers and snowboarders came away with 21 medals! If that doesn't get you excited, freeskiing halfpipe and snowboarding slopestyle will be making its
grand debut at the Sochi games next year! And Lindsey Vonn is already looking to make her return in time for the start of the 2013/14 World Cup season in October, which means she would be more than ready to compete in the Olympic Winter Games next February.
For the first time ever, coverage of the event will begin the night before, on February 7th, with the Opening Ceremony. In addition to the debut of slopestyle snowboarding and halfpipe skiing, women's ski jumping will also be making its inaugural appearance at the Olympic Games, so there should be plenty of excitement throughout the competition!
Currently, the competitors are scattered throughout the world training and competing as they familiarize themselves with the possible weather conditions and environment they may be facing in Russia early next year.
