Deep in the Andes Mountains in the Altiplanos region of Peru, a specialty supplier of Chaos Headwear called the Head Knitter’s Guild create original, sustainable hats.  As part of Chaos’ Moon Shadow collection, this special headwear is handcrafted by the people of Peru. Made 100% from alpaca and alpaca acrylic blends, these distinct hats are playful and fun with one-of-a-kind designs. Through this partnership, the guild is able to fulfill its mission to sustainably support 35 indigenous mountain pueblos with alternative year round regular employment. The genuine people of Peru from the Altiplanos region are given financial relief and are empowered by creating unique headwear for Chaos

Product Development Manager and Hattie Award winner at Do-Gree Fashions-maker of Chaos Headwear, Cynthia Lee Surette, stated, “We have always believed that it was unnecessary to compromise elegance and style while promoting social consciousness. Our relationship with the knitters of Altiplanos is one in which we take great pride.  This type of feedback is affirming, in that it lets us know that we are on the right track, helping individuals and communities in concrete ways. It’s very exciting.”

Many low-income Peruvian families have been positively impacted through working with the Head Knitter’s Guild and Chaos. Those who previously struggled financially, have been able to overcome struggles and seek brighter futures.

As for 44-year-old mother Hilaria Ventura Paco of the Head Knitter’s Guild, all eight of her children are now able to go to school- one of which is the first in the family to go to college. The incredible impact of the cause has been recognized and appreciated by many. After seeing the positive changes and success in the life of her sister and family, Ricardina Ventura Paco decided to join the team of knitters with Hilaria. Like her sister, Ricardina can now send her six children to school with a full stomach. Amongst many other women, the Ventura Paco family is just one of many that have experienced miraculous changes through Chaos.

Director of the Head Knitter’s Guild, Javier Dam, spoke on behalf of the hardworking men and women of the guild.

“All the ladies working on this group (not just the one’s mentioned) agree on something – they are very thankful for the opportunity to work and they don’t want this to stop happening. This group is composed of 35 women and two men from the state of Huancavelica, and the districts of Ascencion, Huanaspampa and Paturpanpa.  We collectively thank you for all the support.”
