From the surf to the snow, Red Bull is giving Southern California college students the opportunity of a lifetime to experience a surf and snowboard session on the same day with professional athletes John Jackson and Jamie Sterling. Red Bull Switchboard offers 500 lucky college students from 25 Southern California colleges to live out the full extent of the Southern California lifestyle with some of the best athletes in the action sports industry.
Professional surfer Jamie Sterling, was bred for insanity as his playground was Oahu’s North Shore which is known for its great wave size and power. Nominated for many big wave awards and winner of the 2010 and 2011 Big Wave World Tour Championships, Sterling has undeniable skills with 60-foot faces. After recently winning the 2013 Nelscott Big Wave paddle, Jamie Sterling has chosen to spend his time with the college crew in Red Bull Switchboard to have some fun.
Along for the ride in Red Bull Switchboard is professional snowboarder John Jackson, from Crowley Lake, CA. Since shredding the Sierras at an early age, Jackson began his snowboarding career in the park and pipe competition, but backcountry became his true passion as he got older. Starring in several films such Brain Farm’s film That’s It, That’s All and Forum’s Forum or Against ‘Em, Jackson has progressed the sport of snowboarding to a whole new level. The amazing skill and intensity that he showed in Forum’s film, Forever led him to earn “Men’s Rider of the Year” and “Video Part of the Year” awards from both Snowboarder Magazine and TransWorld Snowboarding. More recently, Jackson was greatly involved with pro rider Travis Rice in The Art of Flight and The Art of Flight 3D. Any college student that hangs out with John Jackson for a day will definitely learn stuff that can never be taught in a classroom.
Starting in the sunny and sandy shores of California in Huntington Beach at 8 a.m. and La Jolla Shores at 7 a.m., these board-savvy students can shred with legendary big wave surfer Jamie Sterling in their local line up. For those who just want to admire Sterling from the shore have the luxury to hang out in the Red Bull lounge tent and sip on Red Bull to start the day right.
After a few hour surf session with Jamie Sterling, the adventure continues to the mountains at Bear Mountain Resort in a mob of charter buses full of students with Red Bull and snow gear. During the quick, 2-hour drive to the mountains, expect good music, epic snowboard videos, free swag and college kids getting pumped with Red Bull flowing through their veins.
From 12-5 p.m. Switchboard participants can share the stoke of riding Southern California’s Bear Mountain Resort with snow king John Jackson. Take some good notes and learn first hand from master Jackson on how to ride a snowboard. Or if you’re feeling confident, show off your skills in the park with your new college crew. With a Red Bull Switchboard college camaraderie, who knows what kind of shenanigans will happen.
Like peanut butter and jelly, the epic combo of snowboarding and surfing with the pros is a dream come true. Students, mark your calendars for a field trip you don’t want to miss on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 7:00am – 5:00pm. Buy your ticket on www.RedBullUSA.com/Switchboard
