The body of a man was recovered by a rescue team earlier today that buried three skiers in total Friday afternoon near the Revelstoke Mountain Resort. His name was not immediately released pending notification of his family.
The man was skiing with a group of five people out of bounds in the Greely Lake area when the avalanche occurred, burying three out of the five people. The body wasn’t able to be recovered until today due to poor weather conditions.
The two skiers who were not hit dug out the three skiers, but were too late in saving one of them.
This marks the second fatality due to an avalanche in less than a week in British Columbia. A 34-year old German man was killed Monday near Invermere, British Columbia. The Canadian Avalanche Center (CAC) reports a high risk for slides in the province this weekend.
