Nick Goepper Wins the Austrian Freeski Open

Recognized with olympic honour, the 11th Annual Austrian Freeski Open 2013 by Atomic took place in in Zell am See – Kaprun with amazing skiiers of all ages and skill levels. As one of the first freeski slopestyle events and innovators of the discipline, the Austrian Freeski Open is an essential stop for talented ski sensations such as Russ Henshaw, Kevin Rolland, Elias Ambuehl and Kai Mahler.

This year’s finals included the top 10 qualifying riders to show their skills with two runs. Marker Voelkl team rider Nick Goepper dominated the Austrian Freeski Open in Zell am See-Kaprun. With great style and amplitude, Goepper pulled off a Switch Left Double Cork 1080 Japan and Switch Right Double Cork Misty 1260 Mute. Nick “Guppy” Goepper’s amazing run earned a score of 93.50. Goepper took the title at the Austrian Open to add to his X-Games slopestyle gold medal.

Nick Goepper commented on his awesome performance, “I feel amazing! I came here for the first time and didn’t know what to expect. The course is great, the mountain is great, food is great, people are great – just having a great time!” Nick is just getting warmed up before the European X Games in Tignes where he is aiming to rank higher than his last year’s 6th place.

Raised in the flatlands of Indiana, Goepper remained diligent as a skier since the age of 5 and conquered the slopes. His hard work has paid off and fans are expecting more to come. Nick is just getting warmed up before the European X Games in Tignes where he is aiming to rank higher than his last year’s 6th place.

Following close behind Goepper in 2nd place was James Woods with a score of 93.00 from an impressive run including a Double Cork 1080 Japan and Right Double Cork 1260 Truckdriver. American skier McRae Williams finished a solid 3rd place with a score of 92.00 with a Switch Left Double Cork 1080 Japan and a Switch Right Double Cork 1080 Blunt.

Along with the intense competition at the Open comes laid back and fun entertainment including concerts, DJs and parties. The Austrian Freeski Open is celebrated with an epic party for the awesome athletes at the Baumbar in Kaprum.
