The X Games at Tignes, France has seen better days. Due to the continuous and intense stormy weather in Tignes, the slope course will be officially closed on Wednesday. X Games athletes battled mother nature through strong winds and heavy snowfall with poor visibility. Many of the top contenders suffered as the weather conditions intensified resulting in slower speeds, missing skis and low scores.
Specifically, Men’s Ski Slopestyle competitors Nick Goepper, Henrik Harlaut, and James Woods were blasted with crazy conditions. Silver and bronze medalists in Aspen, Harlaut and Woods, both fell in their two runs, failing to advance to finals. Gold medalist Nick Goepper lost a ski during his first run mid-air on the second kicker of the slope course.
Despite the unfortunate results, Goepper remained positive and told X Games, “I think it was really the weather. I kind of misjudged the last jump and came up a little short on my dub 10. The weather rolled in and it got gnarly. I’m still stoked — I’m healthy and happy.”
