Louie Vito got the best present any shredder from Utah could ask for on his 25th birthday — X Games GOLD! The snowboarder went head to head with some of the greatest names to ever strap in and walked away with a huge first place finish in the superpipe competition. Vito secured victory with a phenomenal third run, providing fans with a climactic finish to the event. He was joined on the podium by Frenchman Arthur Longo who took silver, and Taku Hiraoka who followed with bronze.
Vito was in fifth place going into the final run of the event, but propelled himself to victory thanks to huge amplitude and flawless execution of his double 1080. His winning run earned him a final score of 92.66 (just .66 ahead of Longo), and featured a Double crippler, double Michalchuck, front double 1080, cab double 1080, and front crippler. This is Louie’s second X Games gold medal. His first was at Tignes 2011.
“I didn’t even know that I won because when they gave me my score—Arthur’s run was so good,” exclaimed Vito. “It was amazing. If I would have gotten second to Arthur I would have been fine with that. He rode so well. I just wanted to know my score so it wasn’t a waiting game and keep the night going and enjoy it. I woke up this morning feeing really old because I just turned 25, so I was a little sore!”
