Sunday River Resort has big plans for the offseason as it will prosper from $5.7 million in capital investments. Some of the planned enhancements include increased snowmaking, a brand new 15-acre terrain park trail, a renovated and enlarged hotel restaurant, roadwork into The Glades at Ridge Run, an outdoor wedding venue, and upgrades for both Grand Hotels and resort condominiums.
Sunday River Resort is truly committed to enhancing their mountain and resort in an environmentally friendly and energy efficient fashion. The resort began this endeavor in snowmaking back in 2010 when it converted older snowmaking equipment to HKD SV10 Impulse snowguns. Last year exemplifies the effects of the enhanced snowguns as 300 were put in and allowed the resort to pump five times the amount of water than it did in the previous November of 2011. An added bonus is that the snowguns consumed 50% less energy than the older models. This summer, the resort will install 200 more new energy efficient snowguns created by HKD Snowmakers.
“These enhancements are steps in turning our resort vision into a reality and are projects that would not be possible without the commitment and support of our parent company, Boyne Resorts, CNL, and our homeowners,” commented Dana Bullen, Sunday River Resort President and General Manager.
Enhanced Terrain Park Trail
This summer, Sunday River will team up with X Games medalist and 2014 Olympic hopeful, Simon Dumont, to design and begin the earthwork for a 15-acre terrain park trail that will feature an 18-foot Superpipe. The trail will be found between the Dream Maker and 3D trails and serviced by the North Peak Express and Chondola high-speed lifts.
Once the park is completed, this new trail will take the place of the Rocking Chair terrain Park and Superpipe located on Barker and Locke Mountains. In addition, Simon Dumont will host his event, the Dumont Cup, at this brand new location.
Hotel Restaurant Renovation
Sunday River will also renovate its treasured Legends Restaurant to meet the resort’s continued demands for additional event space. The existing Legends Restaurant will be meshed with the conference space of the Grand Summit Hotel to create 300+ restaurant seats in a single area.
Once the project is completed, the resort will look into re-branding the overall image of the restaurant including a new name and menu, but any changed will be brought up this fall.
New Wedding Ceremony Site
During the offseason months, Sunday River is the spot for wedding parties every weekend. With this heightened demand for outdoor space, the resort is taking part of its capital and putting it towards the construction of a new outdoor wedding venue located slopeside next to the Jordan Grand Hotel.
The new venue will include a gazebo and landscaping, which will be perfect for couples to take beautiful pictures with the resort’s alpine setting.
Road to The Glades at Ridge Run
Sunday River will also begin forming a road that will run approximately 1,000 feet in length starting off of the Broadway entrance and moving to the South Ridge Townhomes. The road completion is set for the end of summer.
With all of these great improvements, Sunday River Resort will be the perfect destination for those blissful powder days of winter and beautiful weddings of summer.
