U.S. Snowboarding men are dismissing the competition completely with a full-podium win!
Rookie rider Taylor Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO) led a U.S. sweep with Greg Bretz (Mammoth Lakes, CA) and Ben Ferguson (Bend, OR) in the halfpipe final at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper. Gold put down his winning score during the very first run of the competition after barely qualifying for the final in 16th. The entire international field was not able to top Gold’s run, which resulted in his career-first World Cup victory. All spots on the men’s Olympic team are still up for grabs, and the competition will be at an all time high when the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix goes to Breckenridge Jan. 8-11.
Taylor Gold’s winning run: Backside 540, frontside 1260, double Michalchuk, frontside double cork 1080, cab 1080.
Greg Bretz’s second-place run: Frontside double cork 1080, cab double cork 1080, frontside 900, backside 900, frontside 1080.
