As our crew from the Freeride Chronicles road trips in search of powder were headed for RK Heli for our second stop on our Powder Highway adventure. We drove by the scenic Rogers Pass enroute for our next stop at RK Heli Ski in Panorama Resort. This spectacular mountain zone was an eye opener on how massive and rugged these mountains in British Columbia are. Our crew consisted of show regulars Desiree Leipham, John Witt, Devin Dufenhorst and Tommy Frey. We were also joined by a heli virgin 21 year old ripping snowboarder Dash Kamp from Sandpoint, Idaho.

With a little bit of snow falling on our first morning at RK our guide, Nate Sereda who’s been with RK for over 9 years, brought us up to Rod’s Run a nicely glided area filled with steeps, pillows and plenty of little rock outcroppings. Pretty cool to experience Dash Kamp’s first heli drop. His excitement was contagious as we watched and listened to him hooting and hollering all the way down that first pitch. Fun day watching Dash slaying the pow and dropping and popping everything in sight.

By mid morning the skies opened up and we were treated to some blue skies which gave us the opportunity to get out on the glacier. As a kid this is what I always imagined as the iconic heli skiing run. We skied the glacier for a few runs and then dropped over into another basin for a spectacular show of scenery and powder. Talk about scenery, this basin was over the top. It’s places like this that make you realize just how small we are. This was the perfect zone to wrap up our first day.

Magnificent Purcell Mountain Range

Day 2 we woke with a trace of fresh snow and with the snow continuing to come down. Our guide for day 2 was RK Veteran guide Graham Holt who brought us back to the trees where visibility was good. After guiding at RK for more than 15 years Graham knew where to take us. With a ton of terrain and lots of fun features we chewed up the steeps one deep turn after another. RK has some pretty damn good terrain and awesome guides like 27 year veteran Rod Gibbons and 15 year veteran Graham Holt. Looking forward to another day ripping the pow in the Purcells with RK Heli.

Overall we had some awesome snow, plenty of laughs and made some new friends here’s a short video from the trip. Oh yeah beware of Guide Nate and his photo bombing. You can see we found out the hard way as you can see in the video.
