Snowboarder X returned to X Games Aspen with two icons of the sport taking the top spot.
Nate Holland and Lindsey Jacobellis, both coming off injuries, won the gold, increasing their gold medal count in the sport to seven and eight respectively, making Jacobellis the most decorated female X Games athlete.
“Today I accomplished my goal, I am back,” said Holland. “I knew if I focused all my attention on getting this win today, then the long recovery process wouldn%u2019t be wasted.”
After a break from X Games competition, Snowboarder X returned giving athletes another chance to gain momentum going into the Sochi winter Olympics.
“It is so fun to be back,”said Jacobellis, speaking on the return of the sport to X Games competition. “The course here is amazing, always so well designed. X Games is a great event because it always pushes the athletes to a more difficult level.”
The course design was a focus this year at X Games, creating a shorter more technical course.
“I have never been known as a great out of the gate starter,”said Holland. “With the shorter course you need to play a chess game down the run and you need to best in each phase if you want to come out on top. Sometimes you have to force the issue, but the course was great. We are all fired up to be back at X Games and we hope everyone enjoyed the show.”
