The 2015 U.S. Alpine Ski team was introduced this past Saturday in front of a huge crowd inside Copper Mountains Center Village. 35 athletes were named to the 2015 A, B, and C teams during the celebration, which included the likes of Olympic gold medalists Ted Ligety, Lindsey Vonn, Bode Miller and Mikaela Shiffrin. The announcement officially kicks off the start of the 2015 Audi FIS World Cup and Vail/Beaver Creek 2015 World Championships winter.
The team is coming off a five-medal Olympics in Sochi, with both Ligety and Shiffrin winning Audi FIS Alpine World Cup titles. Vonn, who is making her return to competition since suffering a knee injury at the 2013 World Championships, is expecting to start with speed events Dec. 5-7 in Lake Louise, where she has won 14 times.
“My knee is doing really well. Training has been going extremely well. I don’t have any pain or swelling, so that’s definitely a lot better than I had actually anticipated,” said Vonn.
The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup will swing through America Nov.29-Dec.1 with a women’s giant slalom and slalom events, followed by men’s downhill, super G and giant slalom Dec. 5-7 at Beaver Creek.
The 2015 World Championships kick off Feb. 2 and select events can be seen live across NBC networks. More information including live updates about the competition can be found here.
