Sugarloaf Resort announced the opening of Brackett Basin today, marking the earliest date the all-natural terrain has ever been open. Sugarloaf has received over three feet of snow so far this month, including 30 inches in the past seven days. The heavy snow allowed the resort to open over 1,000 acres of terrain all before Christmas Break, making the 2014-2015 season one of the best starts in memory.
“This is the best start to a ski season that I can remember,” Director of Marketing Ethan Austin said. “The abundant snowfall combined with cold early season temperatures have allowed us to open more terrain earlier than ever, including some of our signature natural terrain.”
Brackett Basin, which is part of the resorts new “sidecountry” development plan will feature a newly cut 10+ acre glade dubbed Slashfire this season located to the east of Slasher II. The new glade features a steep, maintained pitch with cliffs, rock drops, and other natural features ready to enjoy.
