Every year for one day Elk Avenue, Crested Butte, Colorado’s historic downtown drag, shuts down for one of the biggest parties of the year.  You may remember the town and street from Bud Light’s Whatever USA this past summer.  Big Air on Elk, however, is put on by local production company Two Plank Productions and largely supported by local and regional sponsors.  The idea is simple: build a giant jump in the middle of the street, bring in some of the best local and regional skiers and boarders, and pack the rest of the street with cheering fans.  Add to that a beer garden (with a portion of proceeds going to the Fallen Firefighters Fund), food from the local restaurants and music.  Sounds like a party to me!

The one of a kind event started in 2004 originally as a benefit for the Crested Butte Avalanche Center, Big Air on Elk has passed hands multiple times.  Colorado Freeskier has passed the reigns to Two Plank Productions and they plan to make this year bigger and better than ever adding a free concert after the competition by the electronic group Bass Physics.  The night will also include an after party at Bonez, a local bar, featuring Denver based DJ Late Night Radio.

If you can’t make it, don’t worry, Two Plank will be broadcasting the event live online!  Also be sure to like the Big Air on Elk Facebook Page for all the details.
