As the FIS World Cup racers look forward to their next tour stop in Aspen, folks are still looking back and buzzing about the impossible recovery last weekend by U.S. superstar alpine racer, Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey threw a virtual hockey stop into the middle of her second run in Levi, Finland, but miraculously came out on top. Saturday marked Vonn’s first slalom victory, troubling news for the rest of the women’s field. Vonn finished 32nd in slalom last year and still captured the women’s overall title, becoming the first American woman to do so since Tamara McKinney in 1983, Vonn’s run bought back memories of Bill Johnson’s equally miraculous downhill win in 1984. Johnson and Vonn have shown that sometimes the fastest route between two points is not always a straight line.
