Lindsey Vonn Tops World Cup Standings

Lindsey Vonn heard the whispers.  She heard what "they" were saying, that her first slalom victory in Levi was not a real indicator of her becoming a dominant slalom skier.  They were saying the course in Levi was easy and suited her style.  Well, in Spain this past weekend, Vonn finished second to her best friend, Germany’s Maria Riesch.  The Cerdanya Catalunya slalom course most certainly would not qualify as "easy."  So what can they say now?  Talk to the hand, says Lindsey. "Little things like that help to get me fired up and prove everybody wrong," she said.  Vonn’s podium finish vaults her back into the overall World Cup lead, 38 points ahead of Finland’s Tanja Poutiainen.  Vonn also moves to the top of the slalom standings, after finishing 34th in the discipline last year.  So let’s see, Lindsey became the first American in 25 years to win the overall title last year despite finishing 34th in slalom, which was considered her weakest discipline; and now this season she’s first in slalom and on top of the overall standings, zeroing-in on repeating as World Cup champ.  What will they say now?  AnyoneBueller?
