World Cup Schedule Now Favors Lindsey Vonn, Speed Races Loom

This weekend in Slovenia, Germany’s Maria Riesch upped her incredible win streak in slalom to four consecutive races.  Riesch’s win keeps her atop the World Cup standings with Aspen’s Lindsey Vonn perfectly positioned in third, after her fourth place showing.  Why is third the perfect position for Vonn?  Vonn’s strength is as a speed skier, and the early part of this season’s World Cup has been heavy on the technical races.  But, now the speed part of the schedule looms and Lindsey is primed to take advantage.  Everyone, including tour leader Riesch, is aware of Lindsey’s dominance in the speed races. "We’ve had a lot of technical events in a row, but now it’s time for downhill and super G and Lindsey is very fast in both of those. I think it’s her turn now," said Riesch.

So for the ladies, it’s off to the hometown of Atomic Skis, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, for a super-combined (one slalom run + one downhill run) and a downhill.  Vonn is looking forward to both, commenting about the upcoming trip, "I feel good, my timing feels right and it will be great to get back on the long boards."
