Aspen’s own Jen Hudak topped the super-pipe podium at the U.S. Freeskiing Open this weekend at Copper Mountain, CO.  It was a no brainer for the judges, as Hudak went bigger and cleaner than the other women in the competition. She launched her winning run with a 540 grab, then rocked a left-side five, an ally-oop five and finished with a clean 720 (double heli). Anais Caradeux of La Clusaz, France took silver and hometown skier Jess Cumming (Copper Mountain) scored the bronze.

"In the past, I have come into the Freeskiing Open really wanting to win," said Hudak.  "This year, I took a casual approach and just tried to ski my personal best and it obviously worked! I was really happy with my performance."

Canada’s Justin Dorey won the men’s round, performing a circus of a run with a ginomous double flip, right and left-side nines, an ally-oop flat spin 360 and a switch 1080 (triple heli). American Matt Philippi (Breckenridge, CO) grabbed silver with a handful of 1080s and Canadian Mike Riddle took the bronze.

Apparently, it was a banner day at Copper for all concerned, and the field performed stronger than usual, in perfect conditions. (Think blue-bird skies, balmy temps…) Todays event reestablished the U.S. Freeskiing Open as one of the top events in the world," said Head Judge, Mike Atkinson. You dont usually see a final top 10 as strong as we had today. It was exceptional!"
