Shaun White Wins Intelligent Design Contest at Park City

Of course Shaun White won. What would you expect of the X-Games winner and 2006 Olympic Gold medalist, superstar, flying tomato—we could go on…? The snowboarding sensation made it look easy when he smoked the competition at the Intelligent Design contest at Park City Mountain Resort this weekend. This time, however, the going was no ordinary feat. Instead of various events happening on different days, this gauntlet took place all at once, on one challenging course.

First the athletes flew off a big air jump. Next, they hit a slopestyle terrain park, before flipping and spinning through a superpipe. The grand finale? A big trick off of a quarterpipe.

Although the nothing-short-of-amazing White nabbed a nice cash prize this weekend, in 2008, he won an even bigger award, when he took home the Laureus, which is a little like the Oscar, for sports. Nelson Mandela is the honor’s patron, track and field legend Edwin Moses is the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation’s chairperson, and the jury who found White the most worthy consisted of Tony Hawk, Dan Marino, Jack Nicklaus and 43 other stars.

And of course with his X-Games, World Cup, Dew Tour and now Intelligent Design wins, White continues to remind us that he’s also a star in his own right—not to mention a legend in the making.
