American Ski Classic: Ski Legends & Celebs in Vail

Thursday, March 19, Vail Valley will be hosting the 27th anniversary of the Korbel California Champagne American Ski Classic.  Various ski legends and celebrities will join together and celebrate their love of skiing.  Competting celebrities include astronaut Buzz Aldrin, skier and actor Justin Melvey, Jack McGee, Paula Trickey, Olympic gymnasts Kerri Strug, Trent Dimas, Joey Haggerty and Mitch Gaylord, author Amy Tan, football great Joe Washington, country music star Steve Azar, Vail local and reality TV star Ryan Sutter, and Olympic figure skater Paul Wylie.

"[The American Ski Classic] combines fast-paced enjoyable racing action with a wonderful social schedule, all for a very worthy cause. The Ski Classic celebrates the fact that fun and camaraderie are truly the essence of the sport of skiing," said Michael Imhof, Vice President of Sales and Operations for the Vail Valley Foundation 

Ascarcher The festivities begin on Thursday with the Volvo Legends Giant Slalom, a head-to-head competition featuring some of the greatest names in ski racing history, packed with Olympic champs, World Champions, and the greatest athletes in the history of the U.S. Ski Team. The American Ski Classic will also feature live music and the second annual Hold ‘Em For Hope benefit dinner and auction to raise money to support the Vail Valley Foundation’s numerous community initiatives. The American Ski Classic will close as Vail’s own Cindy Nelson is inducted into the International Ski Hall of Fame at the Legends Banquet.
