It’s the longest running snowboard event in the world.  Started in 1982, this year marks the 27th annual U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships.  The event is sponsored by Burton Snowboards.  Mr. Burton himself, Jake Burton, is always on hand to see the latest and greatest of his sport.  Shaun White appreciates the presence of snowboarding’s father.  "Jake Burton’s from here, and he shows up. It’s definitely cool to have the guy who’s basically the founder of our sport be at your event."  White will be among a host of Olympians and the sport’s greatest who will be competing this weekend in at Stratton, Vermont.  Cheering them on will 40,000+ fans, taking advantage of nice weather conditions and free admission.

Greg Johnson, Burton U.S. Open competition director, said, "More so than any other event, the U.S. Open can make a career, and that’s huge. If you go to the Olympics, you’re one of the top two or three riders; if you go to the X Games, you’re top 20 anyway. At the U.S. Open, there are qualifiers, pre-qualifiers, semis and finals, and if you do well you instantly make a name for yourself and have a lot of cred."

New legends are ready to shine this weekend at Stratton in Vermont.  Admission is free, so go check it out!
