Michael Franti & Spearhead and Spoon Headline Squaw Valley’s Wanderlust

It has been 18 years since Squaw Valley’s Gold Coast Concert Bowl had the sounds of rock music reverberating through the trees and nearby mountains.  In 1991, the Jerry Garcia Band headlined the perfect setting with Mother Nature serving as host and stage.

Now, 18 years later, Wanderlust, a three-day experience of music and yoga, will see musical performances from both Spoon and Michael Franti & Spearhead at the famed Gold Coast Concert Bowl.  Quite a return!  Spoon, the Austin, Texas superstars of indie rock would be worth the trip by itself. The voice-over man booms, “But wait, there’s more!”

Michael Franti is a straight-up legend and his band Spearhead put on the kind of live shows that are filed under the “All Time” category.  Franti’s career has been incredibly diverse.  From the industrial sounds of the Beatnigs, to his critically acclaimed hip-hop group Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, and for the past decade, his greatest creation in Spearhead; Franti’s music has always been monumentally special.

Other musical highlights of the weekend include GirlTalk (always a crowd pleaser), Andrew Bird, Jenny Lewis, Broken Social Scene, and Gillian Welch.

Big time yoga Jedi Master types, Shiva Rea and John Friend, will lead classes in the mornings.

Lodging packages are available at www.squaw.com/wanderlust-festival.  It’s all going down July 24-26 at Squaw Valley.  An incredible line-up in a setting that is second to none, Wanderlust is a must on your calendar.
