Friday's freeski superpipe final concluded with Brita Sigourney taking the Dew Tour title in snowy Breckenridge, Colorado. Fellow American Maddie Bowman followed in second place, while Canada's Roz Groenwoud took third.
This was a big win for the skier. Not only was it the first stop of the 2012/2013 Dew Tour, but it's also her first major competition since tearing her ACL this past spring.
After the win, Sigourney detailed her many emotions, saying, “I am so happy right now with my skiing, to come off a knee injury and after having to sit out the rest of the season last year was such a bummer and this is so rewarding. I have been training at the Center of Excellence all summer and fall and it really paid off. I really needed this to help get my confidence back up.”
Bowman talked about her goals for this season, saying, “I really want to do well at this event to start my season off right. It was great to be able to try my new 900 and nail it. This takes a bit of early season pressure off and makes me feel good heading into the season. I was working on my amplitude during the summer and early season training sessions and feel like it’s coming together for me. I am looking forward to the Grand Prix and am hoping to continue to get better this season.”
