The women's U.S. Ski Team traveled to Are, Switzerland for a giant slalom nighttime event on Wednesday. The team was forced to continue with the Audi FIS World Cup Tour without their star athlete Lindsey Vonn. The remaining team members were prepared to step up and shine just as brightly, however a variety of circumstances would prevent anyone from Team USA mounting the podium. Julia Mancuso led the team with a solid 14th place finish, while Mikaela Shiffrin skied strong but went off course after hooking her right shoulder on a gate.

German Olympic GS champion Viktoria Rebensburg ended up taking first place in the event, to earn her very first victory of the season. Her win also served to throw a monkey wrench in Slovenian Tina Maze's wining streak. Maze, who has been largely unstoppable in the World Cup this season, was poised to lock up the 2013 GS title with a win today. Instead, she finished third behind Austrian Anna Fenninger.
The women will compete in a final slalom even in Are on Thursday, before heading home for the holiday break.
