Four climbers were killed in an avalanche today while climbing in an area known as Glencoe in Scotland. The victims were part of a six person group consisting of three men and three women.
One of the two survivors escaped the avalanche unharmed, and was able to alert Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team. The other has been hospitalized, and is listed in serious condition.
Britain does not have the type of mountain terrain and vertical typical to these levels of disaster. A recent weather system has bombarded Britain with strong winds and heavy snows. These harsh conditions are said to have increased the likelihood of danger, turning an otherwise safe climb into a deadly incident.
