Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows in Lake Tahoe, California is set to host The North Face Masters of Snowboarding presented by PrimaLoft Feb. 13-17. Elite amateur mountain boarders will battle it out for The North Face Masters of Snowboarding champion title, $15,000 in prize money, and the chance to advance to the 2014 SWATCH Freeride World Tour. In addition to the big championship title, The North Face will also honor the late Aaron Robinson with the A-Rob award, which is given to the athlete that captures the spirit of the community and desire to dive into the mountains. Another secondary prize awarded is The Young Gun Award given to the rider under 21 that best exemplifies raw talent, a unique riding style, and true sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the mountains.

On top of a talented pool of amateur riders, pro-snowboarders Ralph Backstrom, Jamie Rizzuto, Iris Lazzareschi, Casey Lucas, and Shannon Yates will also be battling it out with the youngsters on the course this year.

The North Face Masters is rated on the Freeride World Qualifier System. FWQs are rated on a scale of 1-4 stars with competitors earning more or less stars depending on the level of difficulty and scale of the venue, competition pool, and more. This event marks the top-level qualifier event, so this is a vital step for athletes hoping to get their big break in advancing to the SWATCH Freeride World Tour presented by The North Face.

The judging panel is made up of head judges Jim Zellers and Danny Haritgan along with Andy Finch and Rob Kingwill rounding out the panel.

This year’s event will start with one open 2-star Freeride World Qualifier at Alpine Meadows (Feb. 13-14) where the top five men and top three women will advance to the Masters 4-star Championship event. The next two days of the event (Feb. 15-16) will feature the Masters Championship at Squaw Valley where riders participating in the event will earn 4-star FWQ points.
