Ever wanted a ski/snowboard lesson from your favorite Olympic athlete? The wait is over because Whistler Blackcomb has added a unique expansion to their Snow School offerings called the “Ski with an Olympian” program. This program gives guests the chance to spend time with the Olympians on the mountain as their personal tour guide as well as the opportunity to get tips and hear stories.

Ski with an Olympian

The program includes thirteen ski and snowboard athletes and participating athletes are based on availability. The program features a full day of skiing or riding with lift line priority led by an Olympic athlete and a maximum of five people per group. Almost all of the Olympians are from lower mainland BC, so they have a knowledgeable background of Whistler Blackcomb. Since each athlete is unique in their sport, they all bring different skills to the table, which helps to pair these skills with the needs of Whistler guests.

“As a proud host of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, we wa

nted to create a unique experience that revives the excitement the Olympics brought to Whistler,” commented Rob McSkimming, VP of Business Development at Whistler Blackcomb. “The opportunity to spend time exploring, learning, and dining with Olympians is a fun and memorable way to celebrate the Olympic legacies at Whistler Blackcomb.”

The athletes headlining the exciting program are World Champion medalists and 2010 Ski Cross Olympians, Davey Barr and Julia Murray. Julia is the daughter of the legendary Crazy Canuck and two-time Olympian Dave Murray, who is honored by a run at Whistler Mountain in his name. The Dave Murray Downhill run was featured in the alpine skiing competition as the site for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

“This program is so special because it gives us an opportunity to really connect with people and share what it’s like to be an athlete at such a memorable event,” exclaimed Julia. “I think Whistler Blackcomb is truly the best place on earth to ski and that’s definitely why so many Olympians call Whistler home.”
