This past Monday, 76 High Fives Foundation supporters strapped on their skinny skis and headed to Squaw Valley to show you can have “FUN” while fundraising. The event was a friendly competition in which all participants raised money on a per-lap and flat-rate basis for the Tahoe based non-profit. High Fives Foundation is known for throwing entertaining and laid back events all in the name of charity and the SKINNY Ski-A-Thon definitely followed suit.

“Arcade Belts was stoked to once again work with the High Fives Foundation,” exclaimed Tristan Queen of Arcade Belts. “The 2013 SKINNY Ski-A-Thon was an awesome day with 76 friends in silly outfits, sporting skinny skis while raising money for the Foundation. With an outpouring of support and an increased awareness we were able to once again grow this fantastic event! See you all next year.”

This year Jordan Basile took over as the SKINNY Ski-A-Thon champ skiing an impressive 51 runs, just barely skiing past Mattias Sullivan with 50 runs and Aaron Bushey with 49 runs. Team Survivor, Michelle Tuscany, Nicole Fisher, Amie Quirarte, and Jessica Gates, were the ultimate philanthropists of the day bringing in the most fundraising dollars as a team with $3,500. Rounding out the philanthropic podium, Shawn Berger raised the most money of all the male fundraisers bringing in over $2,400 in donations and Kahlil Johnson took the top spot for the women fundraisers raising over $2,000 in donations.

Participants easily tracked their lap progress with the SnoCru mobile app as well as the standard punch card every time they skated through the start corral. The start gate was overflowing with delicious food and beverages generously donated by Fireside Pizza Co., Justin’s, Pop Chips and Cabot Cheese. Download the SnoCru mobile app at www.snocru.com, the Apple App Store, and the Google Play store for condition updates, resort news, and more.

The High Fives Foundation is famous for partnering with companies that share in their core mission of increasing fundraising while at the same time increasing awareness for athletes that suffer life changing injuries in the winter action sports community. The SKINNY Ski-A-Thon was presented by Arcade Belts with the help of Wells Fargo, K2 Skis, GoPro, SnoCru, Squaw Valley, Justin’s, Cabot Cheese, Pop Chips, Smith optics, Vermont Peanut Butter Co., Le Chamois, and Fireside Pizza Co.

The next big fundraising event coming up for High Fives Foundation will be the TRAiNS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Contest taking place Saturday, April 20 at 11am at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. For more details on the event visit www.highfivesfoundation.trains.org.
