With the cancellation of the Bad Kleinkirchheim races in Austria, due to high winds, all eyes are on the men. Warm weather, sunny skies, and an icy downhill run created the setting for the competition for the men’s downhill race. The first training run in Switzerland went to Matthias Mayer.  Starting with bib number 17, Mayer put down a run time of 2:36:52. We will see if Mayer can continue his winning streak on the next training run. Mayer wasn’t the only noted skier at the races, but the return of 37 year-old Bode Miller after taking a brief hiatus to get surgery on a back issue created some excitement. Bode finished 27th. Expecting to have a tough race out of the shoots, Miller was pleased with the overall physical condition of his back. The scheduling of both the second training and competition date will be dependent on the weather. We look forward to seeing both Mayer and Miller in action in the upcoming days.
