When Lindsey Vonn straddled a gate in her final slalom run at yesterday’s Alpine Combined event, it left room for Tina Maze, Nicole Hosp and Michaela Kirchgasser to take the podium spots and the World Championship medals. As Vonn stated after her DNF:”I’m just really disappointed. It’s a hometown World Championships and I really tried as hard as I could. I came up short and that’s disappointing for myself and for my family and for my fans. I just didn’t figure out this hill at all. I was especially disappointed today because I actually skied really good slalom (in training) the last two days and I thought I had a chance at getting a medal.”

Unfortunately, it was not Vonn’s day. But for Maze, she was able to ski despite the exhaustion and land herself another medal, totaling three at the 2015 Championships. “I’m totally exhausted, it’s a tough program and late start time for the slalom and it’s also really warm,” said Maze. “But winning is always amazing and now there’s time to recover and enjoy. Even though I’m tired I did my best and I’m happy with the win.” The Silver and Bronze medalists: Hosp and Kirchgasser both had both impressive downhill and slalom runs that put the two on the podium alongside Maze. Congrats to all the women who competed in today’s Alpine Combined.

Although Vonn had a DNF in the slalom, we look forward to seeing her ski on Thursday in the Giant Slalom races where she will have a final chance to win a coveted medal in her hometown. We wish her the best of luck!
