‘Tamashii’ is a full-length social documentary told through skiing that is meant to shine light on and question our society’s dependence on technology, and its effects on social and outdoor engagements.
The documentary, shot on the enviable powder ridden slopes of Japan, puts into question what some of us are already thinking: is our technology use taking away from the very moments we wish to experience? The inspiration for the documentary’s message essentially stems from the title, the standalone word ‘Tamashii’. The meaning of the Japanese word translates to soul; the passion driven force that is within us all, which also allows us to connect with one another.
Producer Ross Reid follows the tracks of a group of skiers that embark on a quest to find those very allusive ‘moments’ on the picturesque slopes throughout Japan. The crew and skiers vowed to disconnect from social media and any connections back home for the duration of their five week stay, to gain awareness and experiences on what it means to truly connect.
The film, ‘Tamashii’, is set for a Fall 2015 release date that is sure to open anyone’s mind to the happenings in the technology driven world we all live. To help support Reid and his sporty social documentary, visit his Kickstarter page, or the film’s website for more information.
