The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee is excited to officially release tickets to the international “Four Nations” sledge hockey tournament occurring at the Shayba Arena in Sochi from August 27-September 1. The event will feature some of the world’s most elite sledge hockey stars from Russia, Canada, Norway, and the Czech Republic.
Sledge hockey recently started to attract a large following ever since the sport made its debut at the Paralympic Winter Games in Lillehammer in 1994. As sledge hockey is the equivalent of ice hockey, the sport allows those who are physically disable the opportunity to participate in the game of ice hockey. Paralympic competitors are required to be at their peak physical fitness level because sledge hockey is so physically demanding due to the sole use of the upper body in competition.
The tournament will feature some intense face-offs as the four nations participating are the leading national sledge hockey teams in the world. Russia, who has been on the rise ever since taking the bronze at the World Championships in 2013, will battle Canada, Norway, and the Czech Republic. While Russia has had a lot of recent success, the favorites for the tournament are still the Canadians, who are three-time world champions, and Norway, which achieved world championship gold in 2004. The last team in the tournament, the Czech Republic, was defeated by Russia in the bronze medal contest at the 2013 World Championships.
Sledge hockey fans that don’t want to miss a minute of the action can attend tournament matches as long as they have a ticket in their name accompanying a document confirming their identity. Tickets can be purchased from www.partner.ru or www.kontramarka.ru after which they need to fill in a questionnaire by August 25 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
