With the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games less than a month away, every qualifying competition becomes critical, and Devin Logan delivered under pressure once again.

Her win in Park City at the Visa Freeskiing Grand Prix, allowed for Logan to become the first female to clinch a spot on the US Olympic Slopestyle Freeski team.

“This is an absolute dream come true for me,” Logan said.  “I have worked my entire life to be in a position to always be a competitive rider on the slope and the timing of having ski slopestyle and pipe in the Olympics for the first time is such a blessing in my life. I couldn’t be any happier than to go over to Russia to represent Team USA and to showcase my sport and the progress that all of my fellow female riders have accomplished.

Park City Mountain Resort is the home to many of the competitors, and that familiarity with the home mountain played a key role as three of the six podium athletes, train in Park City.

Alex Schlopy, Park City native, used the comfort of skiing his home course to his first podium in three years winning the Day 1 Men’s Slopestyle competition.

“It is so hard to explain the small subtleties of what it means to be on your home course,” Schlopy said. “To be able to know how the snow is going to react in changing conditions, to be able to fall asleep in your own bed and to have your entire group of friends and family cheering for you at the bottom of the course makes the biggest difference for me. To get a win after so many years, it’s just a result of having a focus and working extremely hard to get back on top of the podium.”

Day Two of the Visa Freeskiing Grand Prix in Park City continues today, culminating in naming the US Olympic Freeski Team.
