The Opening Ceremony to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia was led by six-time Olympian Todd Lodwick (Steamboat Springs, CO). He led Team USA in the Fisht Stadium packed with cheering crowds and all eyes on them! Team USA’s 230 athletes is the largest team to ever participate in any Olympic Winter Games. Coverage of the Opening Ceremony airs on NBC at 8:30 p.m. EST.
Here is what some of the athletes had to say about the opening ceremony..
Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT), Ski Jumping
It’s such an amazing feeling. It really is emotional because everything you have done leads up to this moment. It’s everything I have dreamed of for the past five years and specifically the last 6 months.
Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT), Freestyle Skiing
The Opening Ceremony is the embodiment of everything Olympic. To me, wearing the same uniform as every other American athlete and walking into a stadium designed to celebrate the Olympic spirit is the moment I first truly feel like an Olympian.
Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO), Snowboarding
That was definitely one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done. I think the fact that I’m at the Olympics has finally set in.
Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO), Freestyle Skiing
I have never felt so good to represent America than tonight at the Opening Ceremony! That was insane! Go USA!
