Agassi, Sampras, Federer, Nadal melee in the desert
Not! Much to do about nothing. Pete and Andre have played each other for over a decade in the most mano y mano sport of all time. Do they love each other...no? Are they vacationing together...no? Are they hanging out at Federer's ski resort chalet in Switzerland? Hows about Andre's place at the Tamarack ski resort? But, lets look at the real deal here kids.
The event raised over $1,000,000 and they were the show. They were the Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson of American Idol. That two minutes of digfest was by far and away the highlight of the evening outside of some pretty damn good tennis. Pete and Andre should quickly schedule a bunch of exo's and should trade a few more barbs in the press. You had a true feeling of rivalry and desire to 'up' the other guy. In a way, it was awesome.
Two great champions. Six other great champions. $1,000,000 for desperate people in need. A totally packed stadium. There little twist is going to have people talking about this event for a long time and likely a lot more money will get donated.
Question, how many of these hit and giggles totally suck? About 95% of them do. This one had some grit and real entertainment. How many people left that stadium and didn't talk about it? About 0%.
So in conclusion, the Hit for Haiti in Indian Wells was a stone cold monster success and hats off to Larry Ellison and all who put it on, but mostly thanks to Pete and Andre for taking it up a notch and making it a thang!
The ski industry needs to do something like this.
