Downhill Great Luc Alphand Badly Injured in Rally Crash

The 1997 Overall World Cup Champion Luc Alphand has been badly injured in a motorcycle crash in France, though the extent of his injuries hasn’t yet been disclosed.

His agents said he underwent surgery for his spine, which is believed to have been fractured, and the hospital later stated that the operation was successful.

The 43 year-old downhill skiing great swapped his skis for motorcycle rallying when he retired from alpine ski racing, and in 2006 won the Dakar Rally.

The Ski Channel wishes Alphand a speedy recovery.
