It was a blizzard in Colorado, Wyoming

The earliest snowstorm of its magnitude to hit Colorado in 12 years spilled over into Wyoming as well yesterday, spreading up to three feet  of powder in both states. The storm also affected parts of Nebraska, Kansas and South Dakota (they even closed Mt. Rushmore!).

While a storm like this leaves us frothing at the mouths, it's not all fun and games for everyone, unfortunately. Ivan Moreno wrote: "Wind-driven snow built to blizzard conditions over much of eastern Colorado. The weather service warned most area roads would be impassible Thursday night because of blowing snow and near-zero visibility. The heaviest October snowfall in the Denver area in a decade forced the closure of hundreds of schools and businesses. Roads across the region remained snowpacked and icy."

Hundreds upon hundreds of flights were cancelled too. Despite all the road closures and traffic, there thankfully weren't any accidents reported.

Here's why we love mountain town folks so much: "The snow and chilly weather didn't deter people from the prospect of free chicken. More than 100 people camped outside a new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Fort Collins overnight Thursday for a chance to win a year's worth of free weekly chicken meals. They huddled around propane heaters supplied by the store and were invited inside for hot chocolate and cookies just before bedding down in sleeping bags and tents." Did the balloon boy family join them??
