A mountain guide in the palm of your hand

Have a blackberry or an iPhone? Then you have the ability to have a full mountain guide on your phone. It's the PowderGuide, and it's set to be released for 16 ski areas. It gives you all the information you could want about the ski area itself and the surrounding community. Using a GPS, it provides directions for every turn you could take, emergency notifications, webcams, maps and more.

Today the PowderGuide is available on the iPhone for southern California's Mountain High resort. The other ski areas that will be part of the PowderGuide include Whistler Blackcomb, Park City, Mountain High, Mammoth Mountain, Taos, Vail, Sun Valley, Summit-at-Snoqualmie, Northstar, Jackson Hole, Big Sky, Aspen, Steamboat, Okemo, Sugarloaf and Killington. Chamonix and Val d'Isere in Europe are in the works as well.

The guide was developed by PowderNation, who has said PowderGuide will soon be available on Windows Mobile, Palm WebOS and Google's Android platforms.

John McColly is the Marketing Director for the Mountain High resort: “The application suits our demographic perfectly. We have always liked being at the forefront of technology and this keeps us top of mind with young users who live and die by their phones. Integrating an app complements Mountain High’s efforts to further expand our use of social media to get skiers and riders talking about the resort.”

This is great but not new !!see Satsportsgps.com . Only problem with Assited GPS on iPhone- I would'nt risk skiing with any GPS related app on iPhone ( ave 40 meters out even in towns can you imagine on a Mountain. I have a Satski app which provides point to point navigation and tracking software for Windows Mobile and Android already and has been in Europe for some 18 months now.And will have most major US resorts covered this year and already has all of Canada, Australia, most European Resorts and the most sophisticated replay software. And you can track your buddies or see where your kids are skiing.
