In the USA, normally when we think Italy, we think the good life: Fine leather and rockin' pasta. But not only is Italy home to the one of the strongest alpine ski teams in the world, the country boasts top-notch skiing, snowboarding and this year-record-breaking snow.

The Italian Dolomites have been receiving serious snowfall, with reports of over five feet of fresh powder in just one week. Most of the resorts are set to open later this month and in early December, and a handful will be hosting Audi FIS alpine World Cup events throughout the rest of the month.

Val Gardena, home of a famous downhill where U.S. Ski Team athlete Scott Macartney stepped up onto the medals podium is seeing a ton of the white stuff. They recently received about four feet of snow in a matter of days. The resort opens Dec. 4, with the World Cup set for the 18^th and 19^th.

Cortina d'Ampezzo, home of a women's World Cup in January has received the bountiful five feet in seven days. They open November 28.
